Sampath Bank Enhances ATM Service with Oracle Database and Interblocks’ iSwitch
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, September 1, 2006 Sampath Bank Ltd., one of Sri Lanka’s most innovative and technologically advanced banks, has enhanced its automated teller machine (ATM) service facility by implementing a specialised ATM switching and card management system from Interblocks, which runs on Oracle Database with Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC).

Deployed in 2005 across all 120 ATMs of Sampath Bank in Sri Lanka, the powerful combination of Interblocks’ iSwitch® and Oracle RAC has allowed Sampath Bank to offer its customers specialised services such as immediate ATM Card issuance, personal identification number change at ATMs, utility bill payments, transfer of funds to fixed deposits, credit card payments and withdrawals and viewing and printing of mini-statements. It has also enabled Sampath Bank with functionalities such as dynamic customer and ATM profiling, centralized management of advertising and messaging and centralized, on-line real time control of ATMs.

Established in 1987, Sampath Bank was the first Sri Lankan Bank to launch several innovative products and services. “With the new and improved ATM switching technology, Sampath Bank became the only Sri Lankan bank in the country to offer immediate issuance of a ATM debit card immediately after the customer opened an account,” said Mr. Jayantha Alwis, Deputy General Manager, Information Technology & EDP, Sampath Bank. “Sampath Bank has standardised the database platform on Oracle,”

The de-centralized card management solution, comprising Interblocks’ iSwitch® Transaction Switching and Management software, Web-enables self-service devices like ATMs. This offers Sampath Bank customers a multitude of services including standard and advanced banking functions such as debit acquiring, online shopping and customer profiling among others.
